Mr. Robert Frank Filer, Sr., 89, of Sharpsville, PA., passed away at 3:55P, Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 peacefully surrounded by family at Hospice House, Poland, OH.

Mr. Filer was born in Burghill, OH on April 5, 1922, the son of the late Albert and Effie (Russell) Filer.

He was a member of The Church of Nazarene in Sharpsville and was active in Church as an usher, board member, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, liked gardening, time spent with family, was a painter and hung wall paper

He served in the U.S. Army in WW II.

He worked at Sharon Steel, for 41 years and retired in 1983.

He was the husband of Avis N. (Carter) Filer. Married on June 14, 1990, who survives at home. Previously married to Margaret Elizabeth Shacklock on Jan. 13, 1943 who passed away on Nov. 29, 1985.

Daughters:
Carol Brown and her husband Robert of Warren, OH, Susan Hughes and her husband Rev. Dennis Hughes of Land of Lakes, FL.
Sons:  
Robert F. Filer, Jr. and his wife Stella "Cookie"of Smethport, PA.
Step Son:  
Stanley Nottage and his wife Alicia of Oxford, MA.

He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Timothy R. Brown, Brian E. Filer, Laura K. Hamdani, Dr. Suzanne M. Barnhart, Dennis M. Hughes II, Darla DeSosa-Rocha, 9 great grandchildren.

A Sister:  Mildred Casey of Kinsman, OH.

Preceded in death by: parents, first wife, brothers and sisters, and 2 great grandchildren

A Funeral Service will be held at Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Sharpsville, PA, at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 7th, 2011 with Rev. Terry L. Weyman, Sr. officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 pm to time of service at the funeral home.

Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park, PA where Military Honors will be rendered by the West Middlesex VFW and Wheatland American Legion.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley 9803 Sharrott Rd. Poland, OH 44514.
