William Fisher Jr. Obituary

William “Bill” Fisher Jr. (formerly of Transfer) passed away peacefully February 7th, 2015 at Trinity Living Center in Grove City, PA with his wife and daughter by his side. God called him home after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Leukemia.

Bill was born into the Amish tradition on October 10th, 1937 to William and Emma (Wengard) Fisher, one of ten children. After leaving the Amish tradition, Bill joined the U.S. Army where he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He married Kathlene Snodgrass October 2nd, 1965, who survives at home.

Bill was a family man who was always there for his family. He enjoyed family trips and was always willing to try something new. He was exceedingly patient with his children, always willing to teach, guide, and help.

Well known for his carpentry skills, he built over 400 homes in Mercer County while working for Byler Construction as a foreman. A hardworking man, Bill built the family home in Transfer during the evenings after putting in a full day’s work building homes for others. Even after his retirement at age 62, Bill continued to do odd jobs for family and friends. Not one to be idle, he ran the small family farm owned by the late Everett and Betty Snodgrass until his Alzheimer’s progressed.

He was a founding member of Lakeside Evangelical Church in Transfer, PA where he was a trustee and usher for many years. Bill assisted in the construction of the church building and its picnic pavilion.

William is survived by his loving wife Kathlene, daughter - Carol (Keith) Peterson of Erie, PA; son - Gary (Sarah) Fisher of Transfer, PA; brothers - Enos Fisher of Greenville, PA, Lester (Clara) Fisher of Middlefield, OH, Harvey (Martha) Fisher, Neal Fisher; brother in law Dan Miller, sister in laws, Ada Fisher and Laura Fisher, and Faye Bowen of Mercer, PA; 3 Grandchildren - Derek Fisher, Lucas Peterson, and Owen Peterson.
