Virginia Stewart Obituary


Virginia "Ginny" (Voorhes) Stewart, 85, of Sharpsville, went to be with our Lord following her struggle with COPD at 5:15 pm on Monday October 6th, 2014 at Sharon Regional Health System Sharon, PA. Many family members were by her side in a beautiful room at SRHS when she took her last breath.
  
Virginia was born on April 1, 1929 to William and Daisy (Stockton) Voorhes in Washington, PA. She graduated from Washington High School class of 1947 and Westminster College in 1951, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. On August 25, 1951 she married the late Stanley Stewart, who passed away February 9th, 1995. In 1953 Virginia made Sharpsville her home in Wynwood Acres. Virginia taught Math, algebra, 7th & 8th grade math, and tutored many students. She was a substitute teacher from 1951 to 1964 at Sharpsville, Hermitage, and Farrell. She was the Farrell Junior High Math Teacher from 1965 to 1966. From 1978 to 1981 she taught 7th & 8th grade math and algebra for the Sharon School District. Virginia taught one year, 1981 to 1982, at the Sharpsville School District. For the remainder of her teaching years, 1982 to 1994, she taught for the Sharon School District where she retired in June of 1994.
  
She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sharpsville. Virginia is a current member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Hermitage, where she was active in Young at Heart. She also worked the polls for many years in the South Pymatuning Area where she also served as judge. A participant in the Silver Sneakers Program, loved traveling especially bike trips in the New England area as well as other areas of the country. She was fortunate to have traveled to both Hawaii and Alaska. Also, she loved her flowers and enjoyed her “out to eat” times.

Her proudest accomplishment was raising 6 children, 5 children who survive her, Debbie (Mike) Banic, Scott (Patty) Stewart, Shelley (Bob) Thomas, Ginger (Chris) Stewart, and Marty Stewart his companion Lori. Brother Bob (Minnie) Voorhes of Washington, PA, sister in laws Catherine Jane Michalyk and Justine Combine. 8 grandchildren Benjamin (Michelle) Blaire, Sarah (Andrew) Barabas, Kaitlin Stewart, Robbie Thomas, Amy Trowbridge and her partner Kristin, Denny (Corina) Trowbridge, Jacob Stewart and his mother Stacy Miller, and Zane Stewart. 5 step grandchildren Brandy Banic, Kris Thomas, Nathan Thomas, David Miller, and Andrew Miller. Also 3 great grandchildren, Zoey Trowbridge, Benjamin Blaire II, Gracen Blaire, and 8 nieces and nephews.
  
Virginia was the neighborhood mom who loved and was loved by so many. She will be missed but the memories she leaves behind will last forever. May she enjoy a deep breath in Heaven. -See you sometime Momma !
  
She was preceded in death by father, William Voorhes, mother, Daisy Voorhes, husband, Stanley A. Stewart, and son Judd Stewart.
  
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 9th, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA.
    
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2014, at 11:00 am in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, Sharpsville, PA, with Rev. James Latta, officiating.
Friends may call from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am in the funeral home.
  
Burial will take place in the Clark Citizens Cemetery.
