Shirlee Ross Obituary
Shirlee Louise Ross passed away 12:15 pm, from an extended illness on Saturday January 10th, 2015. She was 85.
Shirlee was born February 22nd, 1929 to Roy Leo and Mildred Oneta (Grove) Ross in Franklin, PA. She was a long time resident of Sharpsville, PA. Shirlee was one of nine girls.
She attended Sharpsville schools until her senior year then graduated from Hickory High School in 1947. Shirlee continued to share ties with her classmates from Sharpsville, attending many reunions and luncheons. Upon graduation, Shirlee worked at Westinghouse as a coil winder. After World War II, she became a member of the office staff at Westinghouse and retired after 40 years.
After her retirement, Shirlee traveled to many places including Alaska with her dear friend, of many years, Rosemary Mardersteck. They also spent many summers at Lake Erie. She was an avid bowler and loved to play cards. Her greatest passion was animals. She became a member of the Humane Society of Mercer County and also volunteered at Animal Appeal. Additionally, Shirlee volunteered at Meals on Wheels for several years.
She is survived by 3 sisters, Ruth Mushrush of San Diego, CA, Mary Nitch of Mercer, PA, and Mildred (Tom) Cornthwait of Bradenton, FL. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.
Shirlee is preceded in death by her father Roy Leo Ross, mother Mildred Oneta Ross, 5 sisters, Evelyn Gilliland Frazier, Estella Windmyer, Betty McCallister, Doris Frazier, and Marjorie “Midge” Jazwinski.
Per her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Mercer County 3005 East State St. Hermitage, PA 16148, in memory of Shirlee.
