Robert C. Heim, 90, of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully 6:30 am on April 23, 2013 at his residence in Sharpsville, PA.
Robert was born on September 18, 1922 to Charles and Minnie (Hoke) Heim in Trevorton, PA. He graduated from Wiconisco High School class of 1939. Robert was first employed in the torpedo division of Westinghouse and retired after 37 years as a foreman in the H building. In 1944 he married Kathleen Murphy who passed away in 1961. On August 14, 1965 he married the late Lawanda Lewis who passed away January 14th, 2013.
He was a member of Sharpsville First United Methodist Church for over 60 years. A musician, he played various stringed instruments but excelled on the tenor banjo. He was a life member of the former Sharon Local 187 musicians union. Robert played with the Keystone Pioneers and Rocking Chair County Bands. He also played with the Butler area Memories In Music. On October 15th, 2011 Bob was inducted into the Shenango Valley Jamboree Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong hunter and bowler. Robert was a mason and life member of Zem Zem Shrine in Erie. He was also a life member of the Mercer County Shrine Club, Wheel Patrol.
Robert is survived by his daughter - Sharyn "Sherry" Diurba of Sharon, PA; 2 grandsons - Richard Diurba of Omaha, NE, Robert Diurba of Sharon, PA; 2 great-grandsons - Richard Diurba, Jacob Diurba; 2 brothers - Henry (Kathryn) Heim of New Cumberland, PA, Ralph (Mary Lou) Heim of Columbia, MD; and sister - Barbara Snyder of Lykens, PA.
He was preceded in death by father, Charles Heim, mother, Minnie Heim, wife, Lawanda L. Heim, sister, Hilda Heim, brother, Wilmer Heim.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 12:00 pm at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, Sharpsville, PA, with Rev. Lee Weber, officiating.
Robert will also have a musical tribute by his fellow musicians at the Sharpsville VFW following services on Thursday April 25th, 2013. All are welcome to attend.
Burial will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
