Patricia Ann Popovitch passed peacefully at home, with her family, when she was called to be an angel on December 26th, ending a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was 72. Patty was born on March 20, 1952 to Stephen and Irene (Yuhas) Battyanyi in Sharon. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1970 and was a lifelong resident of Transfer, PA.
She began her professional career at WT Grants in Hermitage and was also employed at JC Penny’s. She later worked for Reynolds School District, from where she retired after 25 years. Patty spent time as President of the Reynolds Wrestling Boosters Club and the Reynolds School District support staff union.
Patricia enjoyed being with her family, gardening, bowling and road trips with her gal pals. She was a talented writer and artist, and won multiple poetry contests. It was at WT Grants where she met the love of her life, Dale Popovitch, to whom she was married for 52 years. He survives at home with her faithful four-legged companion, Tater. Also surviving are her son Steven, his wife Toni, and a grandson, Lane (all of Bristow, VA).
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carol “Dolly” Gruver.
The family would like to thank Patty’s care giver, Heather, and the kind employees at Helping Hands Home Care Services. They would also like to thank Linda Bayuk, Cheryl Hills, Cheryl Holmes, Susie Loscano and Janett Collins for their selfless help.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Reynolds Wrestling Boosters Club, Reynolds Wrestling Legacy Foundation, National Breast Cancer Foundation, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
