Mary M. (McKnight) Nelson

Mary M. Nelson, 93, of Sharpsville passed away peacefully on Monday April 21st, 2025 in St. Paul Homes of Greenville, PA.

Mary was born August 31st, 1931 to Evelyn Ogden (Clift) and Leland Rea McKnight in Elizabeth, NJ. She graduated from Salem Washington Academy in Salem, NY and earned her bachelors degree from Westminster College. On July 3rd, 1953 she married her husband, the late Rev. John A. Nelson who passed away December 16th, 2001.

She served for many years as the Choir Director at Sharpsville First United Methodist Church.  Mary was a member of the Sharon First United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Sharon Music Club and Shenango Valley Chorale. She was known as an excellent seamstress and she also enjoyed flower gardening.

Mary is survived by her children, J. Andrew (Barbara) Nelson of WI, Mary Lynne Nelson of MA, Lisa Micco of PA, and Mark Nelson of PA.  She leaves three grandchildren, Lauren Nelson, Alexa Watson, and Jessie Micco.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. John A. Nelson; son, Peter Nelson; sister, Jane McKnight Mesick; and brother, John C. McKnight.

Friends may call Wednesday April 30th, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home 124 W. Main St. Sharpsville, PA and Thursday May 1st, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00am. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 1st, 2025 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Kelley Schanely officiating. 

Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery next to her husband.

A “Musical Celebration of Life” will be held later in this summer at Sharon First United Methodist Church.
