Mary Downing Obituary
Mary A. Downing, 95, of Hermitage, passed away following an extended illness 4:30 am on Wednesday May 19, 2013 at Clepper Manor Sharon, PA.
She was born on March 24, 1918 to Bernard and Michaelene (Pulaski) Nych in Farrell, PA. Mary worked 20 years as a Clerk for Cricks Pharmacy. On September 7, 1940 she married the late Harold W. Downing who passed away February 23rd, 1986.
She was a member of Sharpsville United Methodist Church. She started the Friday Senior Citizens group in the Salvation Army, 30 years ago. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and very active in her church, loved to travel, enjoyed family vacations in the Allegheny Mountains, loved to cook, was an accomplished Polish cook, and made excellent pies.
Mary is survived by her 3 daughters - Carolyn L. Graham of Liberty Township, OH, Lois M. Cox of Katy, TX, Shirley M. Downing of Sharpsville, PA; son - James D. Downing of Hermitage, PA; sister - Julia McClimans of Seattle, WA; brother – Adam (Joanne) Nych of Bethel, PA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 12 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by father, Bernard Nych, mother, Michaelene Nych, husband Harold Downing, sister, Adeline Mitrovich, sister, Lucy Graham, sister, Mildred Olshavsky, brother, Julius Nych, brother, Edward Nych, brother, Stanley Nych, and 2 infant boys.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Sharpsville.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 4:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Sharpsville with Pastor Richard N. Carlson, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Westside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sharpsville in memory of Mary.
