Leona "Joyce" Popovitch, 87, of Greenville, formerly of Transfer, passed away, 5:45 a.m., on August 22, 2013 peacefully with her family by her side at St. Paul’s Home, Greenville, PA.
Leona was born on August 21, 1926 to Karl and Ruth (Jaxtheimer) Reimold in Transfer, PA. She graduated from Transfer High School, class of 1944. Leona worked as a Clerk for Jo Ann Fabric 12 years until her retirement in 1986. She also worked on the torpedo line during World War II in Westinghouse, Sharon, PA . On December 12th, 1946 she married the late Steve Popovitch who passed away December 21st, 1998. She was a member of the Zion Reformed United Church of Christ Transfer, PA. She was a member of the Reynolds VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
Leona enjoyed sewing, crafts, quilting, cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, singing, collecting bells and angels and all kinds of board games. She also enjoyed playing cards, ceramics, exercising, gardening, bird watching, bowling, visiting and being visited, reading, writing letters, watching TV and the news, movies, speaking French, baking, and cooking and entertaining friends and family. Also, she enjoyed attending services and Zion’s Reformed Church, going to fairs, plays, sporting events, parks, casinos, dining out, and going sightseeing. She was also a PEER Graduate.
Leona is survived by 2 daughters - Sherry (Edward) Fry of Greenville, PA, Linda (Larry) Royal of Greenville, PA; 2 sons - Larry (Debbie) Popovitch of Greenville, PA, Dale (Patty) Popovitch of Transfer, PA; sister - Jane Biggart of Transfer, PA; 24 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Steve Popovitch, father, Karl Reimold, mother, Ruth Reimold, brother, Jack Reimold, and sister, Augusta Heile.
Friends may call Sunday, August 25, 2013 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Sharpsville, PA.
Friends may call Monday, August 26th, 2013 from 10:00am to 11:00 am in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013, 11:00 am at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, Sharpsville, PA, with Rev. Nathan Seckinger from the Greenville Alliance Church, officiating.
Internment will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery.
