Joseph Earl Nevin, 89, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home on August 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 8, 1935, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, to Kenneth and Geneveive Nevin.
At the age of 17 in 1952, Joe joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for four years during the Korean War. While stationed in Puerto Rico for three years, he loaded bombers that then flew to Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
On June 9, 1956, he married Phyllis Sandrock; she survives at home. For the first part of his life, Joe worked for many construction crews and companies, specifically doing masonry work. In 1970 he gave his heart to Jesus and went back to school to become a minister. He graduated from the C.L. Lane Bible Institute in Transfer, Pennsylvania, in 1973. He went on to serve as a pastor at many churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida where he worked tirelessly to minister to those around him. Some of his greatest experiences were spent serving others at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of the La Sioux Indian Tribe in Wamblee, South Dakota.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed hunting deer with his boys, riding horses with his daughter, singing hymns around the piano, fishing with his grandchildren for bass at Weslemkoon Lake in Ontario, Canada, and camping with his wife. His greatest joy, however, was found in taking care of people.
He leaves behind a large family that he adored, including, at home his wife of 68 years, Phyllis; his four children, Robin McLaughlin of Jamestown, PA; Tina Musone (Brian) of Hermitage, PA; Joseph Earl (Pete) Nevin Jr. (Kelly) of Hartstown, PA; and Troy Nevin (Joyce) of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Clara Liska of Greenville, PA; and Glenda Java of Georgetown, PA; 9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; a brother, Elmer Nevin; and a son-in-law, Richard McLaughlin.
A private graveside ceremony with military honors will take place in the coming weeks.
Arrangements entrusted to the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Crematory Sharpsville, PA.
