James Black Obituary
James F. Black, 80, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday April 18th, 2018.
Jim was born on August 15th, 1937 to Forde John and Thelma (Richards) Black in Nutwood, OH in his grandfather’s black smith shop. He graduated from Hickory High School class of 1955. Following high school, Jim attended the General Motors Institute in Flint, MI for 1 year. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the motor pool and at Sault “Soo” St. Marie, guarding the locks. On August 15th, 1964 he married his wife, Judith (Kendall) Black, who survives at home.
Jim started his automotive career at Seidle Chevrolet in 1947. After his service in the military, Jim worked at Boyd Chevrolet in Kinsman, OH. He was a mechanic at Stupka Motors in Sharon, then in 1967 he worked as the service manager for Hofius Chevrolet. From 1978 to 1980 he owned and operated Jim Black GMC in Greenville. Jim returned to Sharpsville in 1980 and joined his lifelong friend as co-owner of Hofius & Black Chevrolet. To finish his automotive career, he was joined by his son and co-owner at Jason Black Chevrolet from 2002 to 2013.
He was a Free and Accepted Master Mason and member of Sharpsville Lodge 517. Jim loved to golf and a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He always enjoyed seeing former customers and reminiscing about the vehicles they bought from him in the past. He liked to travel with family and friends. Most important to Jim was his grandchildren whom he loved dearly and liked to spend time with.
James is survived by his loving wife Judith Black, son, Jason F. (Shannon) Black of Hermitage, daughter, Jamie L. Shepard and fiancé Christopher Magnussen of Holden, MA. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Kendall Shepard, Allison Black, Abbigail Black, Amelia Black, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and David Black.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 22nd, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, Sharpsville, PA.
