Henry Caputo Obituary
Henry Vincent Caputo, 93, of Sharpsville, passed away on Sunday February 10th, 2019 at St. John XXIII Nursing Home.
Henry was born on March 26th, 1925 to Ignazio and Mary (White) Caputo in Sharon, PA. He graduated from Farrell High School class of 1943. Henry was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked in the boiler shop in Sharon Steel Inc., until his retirement. On August 21st, 1948 he married his wife, Anna (Stiggi) Caputo, who survives at home.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church where he was active and a longtime member of the Holy Name Society. Henry was also a member of the Farrell VFW, Sons of Italy, and the ITAM Italian American War Vets. He was also an excellent athlete. In high school he was a 4 year member of the wrestling team, winning two district 10 titles and advancing to the state semifinals in 1942. Henry played with the famed Jones-Monaco Independent Softball Team and led them to the league championships in 1948, 1949, and 1950. Throughout his career he earned numerous accolades but two will be remembered most, in 1950 he single handedly executed a triple play during a playoff game and second in 1954 he hit two safeties off famed pitcher, from the King and his Court.
Henry is survived by his loving wife Anna, grandchildren, Lindsay McKean, Jeremy McKean, son in law, Larry McKean, sister, Anna Rose Caputo, brother, William Caputo, sister in law Josephine Fammartino, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Ignazio Caputo, mother, Mary Caputo, daughter, Christine “Tina” McKean, sister, Marie Caputo, brothers, Alfred, Frank, and Eugene.
Friends may call Wednesday February 13th, 2019 from 10 am to 11 am in St. Bartholomew R.C. Church 311 W. Ridge Ave. Sharpsville, PA 16150.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday February 13th, 2019 at 11 am in St. Bartholomew R.C. Church with Father Matthew Strickenberger, officiating.
Entombment will take place in St. Rose Mausoleum.
