George W. Shaffer, 89, of Austintown, OH formerly of Clark, PA, passed away following a brief illness, 3:30 pm on May 29, 2013 in Sharon Regional Health System.
He was born on January 23, 1924 to Russell and Myrtle (Haggerty) Shaffer in Pulaski, PA. He graduated from Union High School. George was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He served in the United States Navy. George worked as a Switchboard Operator in the Powerhouse for Westinghouse 37 1/2 years until his retirement in 1984. On March 5, 1949 he married Jean Brown who survives at home.
He was a member of West Austintown United Methodist Church. George was Grand Master of Sharpsville Masonic Lodge #517, Boy Scout Leader, School Board member for Sharpsville Area Schools, member of Shenango Valley Lodge #810, Valley of New Castle Consistory. He enjoyed building houses and woodworking.
George is survived by his loving spouse Jean, 2 daughters - Beth A. Shaffer and her Fiancé Pat McGee of Canton, OH, Linda S. (Carl) Hunyadi of Hermitage, PA; son - Russell W. (Judy) Shaffer of Clark, PA; 2 sisters - Vera Hilke of Ft. Myers, FL, Mary Jane (Ray) McKee of Pulaski, PA; 5 Grandchildren - Darlene (Mike) McCoy, Tony (Steph) Hunyadi, Russell (Terra) Shaffer, Adam (Amanda) Hunyadi, Robert Shaffer, also surviving are 8 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Russell Shaffer, mother, Myrtle Shaffer, sister, Lois Graft, sister, Ruby Joanne Shaffer, brother, Herbert Shaffer, brother, James Shaffer.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 01, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 7:00 pm at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, Sharpsville, PA with Pastor George Lee officiating.
