Gary L. "Gus" Grandy, 60, of Sharpsville, PA passed away 9:30 pm on Monday April 13th, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh, PA following complications of heart surgery.
Gus was born on August 20th, 1954 to Leonard O. and Thelma I. (Gilliland) Grandy in Sharon, PA. He graduated from Sharpsville High School class of 1972. Gus worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Sharpsville School District until his retirement in 2011. On December 7th, 1974 he married his wife Joyce A. (DeMaria) Grandy who survives at home.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharpsville where he served as a church elder and sang in the choir. Gus lived to serve others. He served on the Sharpsville Boro Council as Vice President and President and currently on the Sharpsville School Board. He also worked at DALKO Inc. following his retirement. Gus was a social member of the Sharpsville VFW, former member of the Sharpsville Boosters Club, member, Santa Claus and helper for the Sharpsville Service Club. He was an avid Sharpsville sports fan, enjoyed traveling to Notre Dame Football games, he played basketball and baseball at Sharpsville. Gus coached baseball and basketball for boys at Sharpsville schools, girls basketball at Sharpsville schools, and boys basketball at West Middlesex schools.
Gus is survived by his loving wife Joyce, 2 sisters - Sandra L. (John) Sager of Sharpsville, PA, Kathy A. (Rick) Steinmann of St. Louis, MO; sister in law - Paula (Jim) Kudelko of New Wilmington, PA; 2 brothers - Leonard O. (Deana) Grandy of Hermitage, PA, John R. "Jack" (Paula) Grandy of Struthers, OH; brother in law - Terry M. (Debi) DeMaria of Hermitage, PA; mother in law - Sophie Bodnovich of Hermitage, PA; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and his pet dog Louie.
He was preceded in death by father, Leonard O. Grandy and mother, Thelma I. Grandy.
Friends may call Thursday, April 16th, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 17th, 2015 at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church of Sharpsville with Rev. Mike Carlin of the First Presbyterian Church in Sharpsville, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Sharpsville or Sharpsville Gridiron Club.
