Faith Hornick Obituary

Faith Elaine Patton Hornick, 73,  Sharon, PA, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at 8 p.m., following a six-month battle with lung cancer.    She passed away in Headland, Alabama, where she spent the last months of her life with her daughter, Jill, and her family.
Faith was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania,  on November 5, 1944, to Edward Reuben and Margaret Lillian Nickel Patton.
She graduated from Sharpsville High School, class of 1962.     She then went on to further her education at Edinboro (PA) College, where she graduated in 1966 with  degrees  in Elementary Education and Special Education.    Faith taught in the Sharpsville Elementary Schools, teaching at the former Pebly building, the former Seventh Street School and the former South Pymatuning Elementary School.     She taught for   35 years, from  September of  1967  until her retirement in June of 2003.    While teaching, she was a member of the Sharpsville Area Education Association,  the  Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association.
Faith was an avid reader and could always be found with a book nearby.    Through her years of teaching, she touched the lives of many children and instilled her love of reading in several  of them.
In addition to reading, Faith enjoyed traveling, going to two of her favorite places, England and Ireland.  She had a love of British-themed television programs and shows dealing with anything relating to British history.    Faith also spent many Januarys at Fort Myers, Florida, reading poolside and enjoying the sunshine.
Throughout her life, Faith owned many dogs, her companions, all of whom she loved dearly.
Faith previously had volunteered for Meals on Wheels at Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon.
Survivors include her daughter, Jill (Tim) Benefield, Headland;  two brothers,  Roger (Patti) Patton, Sharpsville, and Jeffrey (Barbara) Patton, Sharon;  her grandchildren, Isabella and Bradley Massas, and her step-grandchildren,  Tyler and Clayton Benefield, all of Headland;   nieces and nephews, Randy, Eric, Megan, Neil, Valerie and Matthew;   several cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call Friday January 26th, 2018 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA 16150.
A memorial service will be held Friday January 26th, 2018 at 12 pm in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home.
