Ernestine Matvey Obituary
Ernestine R. Matvey, 85, of Mercer, passed away 7:45 am on Saturday November 21st, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital following a brief illness.
Ernestine was born on March 14th, 1930 to Coy W. and Fannie Mable (Daniels) Byrum in Merry Hill, NC. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class and also a graduate of business school. Ernestine was a homemaker. In her earlier years, she worked as a telephone operator. On April 12th, 1952 she married her husband Richard T. Matvey, who survives at home.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, taking care of her apple trees, and was an avid fisherwoman. Ernestine liked traveling, her and her husband have visited all 48 continental United States.
Ernestine is survived by her loving husband Richard, 3 daughters - Linda R. (Philip) Whitson of Rock Hill, SC, Susan E. (David) Anderson of Sharpsville, PA, Melissa A. (Ronald) Flickinger of Hermitage, PA; 2 brothers - Donald (Bessie) Byrum of Windsor, NC, C.D. (Barbara) Byrum of Merry Hill, NC; 7 Grandchildren - Janelle (Bob) Angermeier, Ryan Whitson, Jesse Anderson, Michelle Whitson, Ciera Flickinger, Kayci Flickinger, Blaze Flickinger; and great grandchild - Miley Whitson.
She was preceded in death by father, Coy W. Byrum, mother, Fannie Mable Byrum, and sister, Betty Domecq.
Friends may call Tuesday November 24th, 2015 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 25th, 2015 at 11 am in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home with Rev. William Locke, officiating.
Burial will take place in Mt. Washington Cemetery.
