David Amon Obituary

David Edward Amon, known to many as Dave or Sass, passed away on November 12th, 2025, holding his wife's hand and surrounded by many of his family and loved ones. He was 78 years old.

Dave was born on August 22nd, 1947, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to the late Basil Laverne Amon and Shirley Ruth Voytik. From his earliest days, Dave carried a quiet determination and a generous spirit that would define the rest of his life. After answering his country's call, he served two tours in Vietnam, an experience that shaped his character and deepened his commitment to service. He remained a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a brotherhood he valued tremendously.

Dave built a distinguished career as a specialist in power generation, rising to the top of his field through the same reliability and honesty that defined every part of his life. In 2000, he and his wife moved to Nevada, where he built their home with his own hands, a testament to his tireless work ethic and love of remodeling. Never one to sit still, Dave launched himself into horse racing creating a business. From the racing business he decided to expand it into a horse breeding operation which will continue to grow into the dream he imagined. His passion for horses and racing had him enrolled with the National Racing Compact.

Beyond work, Dave was a man of rich interests. He loved fishing, singing, reading, politics, and a spirited debate. He was playful, intelligent and funny, the kind of person who could make you laugh and make you think in the same conversation. Above all, he was fair, loving, and dependable. To many young men and women beyond his own family, he served as a parental and grandparental figure, offering guidance and steady encouragement whenever it was needed.

For 53 years, Dave shared his life with his beloved wife, Theresa Riba Amon. Together they built a beautiful family. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; his children, Edward Amon, Dolores Amon Huang, and David Amon; his sisters, Barbara Amon Reed and Marty Amon Gaydos; and his brother, Thomas Amon. He was preceded in death by his father, Basil Laverne Amon, mother, Shirley Ruth Voytik and step-mother, Dolores Sines Amon.

Dave's faith in Christ was the foundation of his life. He walked with the Lord faithfully, and his family takes comfort in knowing he rests now in God's eternal peace.

A graveside service will be held on May 16th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Transfer Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Transfer, Pennsylvania 16154 with full military honors. A luncheon will follow. Location will be given out after the service.
