Charles E. "Ed" Gearhart, 77, of Greenville, passed away 6:55 am on Wednesday March 25th, 2015 at his home in Greenville, PA following an extended illness.
Ed was born on December 30th, 1937 to Roy and Elizabeth (Blair) Gearhart in Masury (formerly Sharon), OH. He attended Farrell High School and served in the U.S. National Guard. Ed worked as a heavy equipment operator 33 ½ years for Damascus-Bishop Tube in Transfer, PA until his retirement December 31st, 1999. After retirement, Ed drove a school van 7 years for OD Anderson.
He was a Deputy Game Protector for the PA Game Commission, 20 ½ years; Pymatuning Township Supervisor & Road Crew 4 years; lifetime member and trustee of the Transfer Volunteer Fire Department; Reynolds VFW member; 22 year campground host at Cooks Forest State Park; former member of the Transfer Kiwanis; and president of the Independent Union that became the United Steel Workers Union at Damascus-Bishop Steel. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at his camp in Tionesta, PA with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Clare "Penny" (Durney) whom he married October 4th, 1958, daughter - Tracey L. (Daniel) Schaaf of Transfer, PA; 2 sons - John E. (Tammy) Gearhart of Greenville, PA, Charles L. (Debra Jo) Gearhart of Rochester, MN; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Walter L. Gearhart, mother, Elizabeth Gearhart, brother, William Gearhart, brother, James Pennington, and brother, Robert Pennington.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 27th, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm & Saturday, March 28th, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28th, 2015, 11:00 am at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Sharpsville, PA, with Visitation Pastor Joe Nevin, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Westside Cemetery.
