Alexander “Bud” Bailey Donaldson, 87 of Sharpsville, PA was welcomed into the arms of his Lord on December 8th, 2015.
Bud was born on March 10th, 1928 to the late Alexander Burns (Louise Bailey) Donaldson on Road 1 Bulger, Washington County, PA. He graduated from Midway High School, class of 1946. Bud served 18 months in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. After his service in the military, Bud attended the University of Pittsburgh from 1948 to 1950. Bud then entered the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, from which he graduated in 1951. He served his apprenticeship at the Wilson Funeral Home in Midway from 1951 to 1952, and continued to work there until August of 1955.
Bud married his wife Barbara Evans on June 26th, 1954 in Bellevue, PA. Bud and his wife Barb purchased the L.A. Love & Son funeral Home in Sharpsville, PA on August 3rd, 1955. In 1965 they established a partnership with John K. Mohney from Transfer, PA and established the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home, which they owned until 1990. Bud was appointed Chief Deputy Coroner in 1965 and served with John K. Mohney 28 years and until September of 1995.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church In Sharpsville, PA as an elder and serving in other positions for over 60 years. Bud was an honorary member, Past Treasurer, Past Secretary, and Past President of the Mercer County Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of the National & Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, Sharpsville Service Club, Sharpsville VFW 6404, Sharpsville American Legion 162, Sharpsville Masonic Lodge 517 F&AM, New Castle Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine Erie, PA, Sharpsville I.O.O.F. 739, Sharon Elks 103, and Western Reserve Fish and Game Conservancy. Bud served many years on the Board of Directors for the United Way and a number of years on the Upper Shenango Valley Sewer Authority.
Bud and his wife Barb loved to dance anytime, anywhere. They belonged to 2 square dance groups in the 50s and 60s. Bud enjoyed taking vacations with his family and loved time at his camp, Hoot Owl Lodge, in Elks County, PA, where he hunted, fished, and cherished his porch time. His family was very special to him and he shared a special bond with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, at home, 2 sons Alexander James (JoAnn) Donaldson; John Evans (Karen) Donaldson; 2 granddaughters Dr. Janelle Donaldson, Kelsey LaCourt; also surviving are sisters Jane Turner Adamson of Avella, PA; Marjorie Zarecky of Greenville, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brother in laws, James Adamson, Robert Zarecky, Robert W. Evans, and Karl Jud.
Friends may call Friday December 11th, 2015 from 4 pm to 7 pm and on Saturday December 12th, 2015 from 10 am to 11 am at the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service 124 Main St. Sharpsville, PA 16150. A Masonic Service will be held Friday.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 12th, 2015 at 11 am in the Donaldson-Mohney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, with Pastor Michael Carlin, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church in Sharpsville or the F.H. Buhl Park Foundation 715 Hazen Rd. Hermitage, PA 16148.
Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery Sharpsville, PA.
